Elderly Support
Whilst a large majority of elderly Indonesians are cared for by their families, a group exists who have no family or their families are too poor to care for them. For these people Pusakas provide a place where they can come to receive nutritious meals, or have meals brought to their home if they are too ill or frail to attend. Some Pusaka’s also provide services such as medical care, exercise classes and spiritual support/prayer groups.
Pusakas are usually run by respected community members and a group of local volunteers who do the cooking and delivering of the food.
ANZA Social Welfare supports a number of these ‘community care’ centers for the elderly by providing financial assistance for the purchase of food items and to cover general running costs.
